SAP Capital is a Midrand-based renewable-energy investment company providing solar project funding and battery storage finance for commercial, industrial, utility-scale and public-sector energy projects across Southern Africa.
We partner with project owners, energy users, EPC contractors and developers to structure and fund projects that strengthen energy resilience, reduce long-term electricity costs and support the transition to a lower-carbon energy system.
SAP Capital is backed by Singapore-based Future Watt New Energy, whose platform spans renewable generation, grid-scale battery storage, grid infrastructure and AI-ready power. This gives Southern African projects access to international capital and storage expertise, delivered through a locally registered South African company.
Our approach is practical: we assess the project, its offtake, technical solution, risk allocation and financial viability, then work with the right parties to develop a suitable funding structure.
Investment Focus
Renewable-energy projects with clear commercial value, credible implementation partners and robust energy-storage solutions.
Rooftop, ground-mounted, commercial, industrial and utility-scale installations.
Every SAP Capital project includes at least 1 MWh of battery storage.
Projects that support reliable, diversified renewable generation.
Infrastructure that turns waste streams into sustainable energy value.
Hybrid energy systems Integrated solar, storage, generation and energy-management solutions are also considered.
Funding Structures
We consider financing structures based on project size, offtake profile and risk allocation.
Long-term PPA for commercial and industrial offtakers. The investor funds, owns and operates the assets while the client pays for energy used.
Flexible capital for larger utility-scale and multi-site portfolios, structured around the project’s risk profile.
BOT structures may be considered for qualifying government and public-sector projects.
A minimum 1 MWh battery energy storage component is required for every funded project.

FAQ
Answers on solar PPAs, battery storage finance and how SAP Capital assesses renewable-energy projects in South Africa.
Under a solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), SAP Capital funds, owns and maintains the solar and battery system installed at your site. You pay only for the electricity it produces, at an agreed tariff per kWh, over a long-term contract, typically with no upfront capital cost to you.
We fund projects from 1 MW. Projects from 1 MW to 20 MW are typically structured as a PPA. Projects above 20 MW may be funded through a PPA, debt finance or equity investment.
Every project we fund must include at least 1 MWh of battery energy storage (BESS). Storage improves reliability during load-shedding and grid outages, lets solar energy be used after sunset and strengthens the long-term bankability of the project.
Yes. For qualifying government and public-sector projects, Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) structures may be considered. An appropriate government guarantee is required.
A company profile and project overview, twelve months of electricity bills or load-logger data, a HelioScope design where available, the EPC contractor’s profile and technical proposal, a CAPEX estimate and financial model, and details of the proposed security package.
We invest in solar PV, battery energy storage, wind, waste-to-energy and hybrid energy systems in South Africa and across the SADC region.
The investor owns the equipment during the PPA term. At the end of the agreement, the offtaker may typically purchase the assets at residual value, or the system is removed and the site reinstated, as agreed in the final contract.
